Trainee Teacher Anthony Raine

Experience and Qualifications

Having completed an engineering apprenticeship my pathway to my degree began with City and Guilds qualifications followed by a Btec National Certificate. I later completed a degree in Manufacturing Engineering at Sunderland University. Before beginning my degree I worked in shipbuilding and ship repair as a welder/fabricator. After my degree I worked in electronics manufacture for 10 years.

Why did you decide to train to teach engineering?

I decided to pursue a career in teaching as I have always had an interest in education. Being a parent I have always tried to support and help my children through their schooling. I initially enquired about teaching Maths but found that engineering more closely matched my experience in industry and the vocational element of the Engineering Diploma appealed to me as this matched my learning style.
